One of the top defensive second basemen in Fordham history, Pungello served as a co-captain in 1976. That year he hit a team-high .417 which ranked among the top 15 hitters in all of the NCAA Division I and earned him All-Metropolitan Conference honors. Undoubtedly, his most dramatic hit was a two-out, three-run homerun in the bottom of the ninth on Jack Coffey Field to beat fifth ranked Seton Hall in his junior year.
