Johnny Murphy was one of the greatest pitcher in Fordham baseball history, playing from 1927-29.
Over the course of three seasons, he posted a 12-4 record with 130 strikeouts in 149.1 innings. He also registered 11 career complete games and three shutouts.
In 1929, Murphy allowed just eight earned runs all seasons for a 1.47 ERA, and was signed by the New York Yankees, where he went on to play 12 seasons, recording 93 wins and over 100 saves. His 1.47 ERA still ranks among the top ten all-time at Fordham.
