Mike Byrnes was a top receiver for Fordham University in the late 1960's. Byrnes, a three-year starter, was a First Team Club Football All-American in 1969. He graduated with the school record for most catches in a game (7) set against Georgetown in 1967 and for the most receiving yards in a game (110) set against Georgetown in 1967. Byrnes also graduated with the school record for most touchdown catches in a game (2) set against Catholic in 1968 as well as the most catches in a season (26) set in 1967 and for the most reception yards in a season (366) set in 1967. Career records set by Byrnes between 1967-69 are most catches in a career (64), most receiving yards in a career (914) and most touchdown catches in a career (10). In his three seasons, Byrnes helped the team to a combined 17-6-1 record, including leading the 1968 team to a 7-1 record and number one national ranking among club teams. One of the biggest catches of his career was a game-winning touchdown grab from Frank Urso with three seconds left in the spring of 1967 game against Iona.
