Cory Riordan, who graduated in 2012 from the Gabelli School of Business with a degree in business administration, was one of the top pitchers in the Atlantic 10 from 2005-2007.
Riordan opened his collegiate career by winning the 2005 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year award as well as being named to the 2005 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team and Second Team All-Atlantic 10. He compiled a 10-4 record and a 3.61 ERA with four complete games as a freshman, carrying a 25-inning scoreless streak into the Atlantic 10 tournament, the second longest scoreless streak in Fordham history. Riordan was the first Fordham pitcher to win ten games in a season since Paul Darrigo in 1988 and the first to throw two complete game shutouts in a year since Joe Maniscalco in 1991.
As a junior in 2007, Riordan was listed as the top prospect in the Atlantic 10 by Baseball America. He helped Fordham secure the number two seed at the Atlantic 10 Championship as the Rams advanced to the A-10 title game for the first since 1998. Riordan was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Championship team that spring as well as being named Second Team All-Atlantic 10. Riordan ended the season with a 7-4 record and a 3.95 ERA. He struck out 100 batters in 100.1 innings, joining Hank Borowy (1939) and Dick Egan (1907) as the only Rams to reach 100 strikeouts in a single season, while also becoming the third Ram to have over 100 innings pitched in a year, joining Borowy (1939) and Darrigo (1988).
In three seasons at Fordham, Riordan was 21-11 with a 4.02 ERA, 201 strikeouts in 246.0 innings pitched, and four shutouts. He is one of six pitchers at Fordham to reach 200 career strikeouts and currently ranks among the top ten in five career categories: wins (tied for fifth), shutouts (tied for fifth), strikeouts (sixth), games started (eighth) and innings pitched (tenth).
Riordan was drafted following his junior year in the sixth round by the Colorado Rockies and played last season with Colorado’s Triple-A affiliate in Colorado Springs.
The Killington, Connecticut, native returned to Fordham to complete his degree in 2012.
