Matteo Cucchiara, a 1965 graduate of Fordham College at Rose Hill with a degree in Geology and History, was one of the most decorated runners for the Rams in the 1960's.

Cucchiara held seven Fordham track records at graduation, including the outdoor mile (4:10.4), outdoor three-mile (14:16.3), indoor mile (4:12) and indoor (9:06) and outdoor two-mile (9:10). He also held the Met Intercollegiate indoor 2-mile run record at The Armory (9:09), which stood for over ten years.

While representing Fordham at the Capital State Indoor track championships in Colonie, New York, Cucchiara set two world records (ten lap flat track mile (4:15.0) and ten lap flat track for the two mile run (9:18). He beat Olympic qualifier Barry Brown in both those races, while winning the outstanding competitor of the games.

As a freshman at Fordham, Cucchiara won the Met Intercollegiate two mile and came back 20 minutes later to take second to George Germann in the mile anchored the two mile relay to second place.

On the cross country course, Cucchiara served as a team captain and was the first finisher for Fordham, while setting the Fordham Van Cortlandt Park course record, when the Rams won the Met Intercollegiate Cross country championship for the first time in Fordham history.
