Ed was Fordham's head basketball coach for 17 seasons between 1922 and 1943, and is generally credited for making the sport a major activity at Rose Hill. He compiled a fantastic 211-97 record over that period. His "Wonder Fives" from 1924 to 1929 lost only nine games, and won the Eastern Championship three times. Fordham's first two basketball All-Americans-Frank Dougherty and Bob Mullens- played for Kelleher as did Johnny Bach. In Kelleher's final year, he led the Ram five to is first N.I.T. where they finished fourth. When Fordham dropped basketball due to World War II, he went to West Point where his teams posted a 30-1 mark in two years.
