One of the best hitters in Fordham history, Fred Opper led the 1980 Ram baseball team in batting with an impressive .391 average, and a team leading 8 Home Runs and 22 RBI. The hard hitting first baseman was co-recipient of the 1980 ECAC New York-New Jersey Most Valuable Player. He also held the Fordham record for most doubles in a career with 28 and doubles in a season with 12. He had his best season as a junior, in 1979 with a .408 average, 7 home runs and 30 RBI. He finished Fordham with a .345 batting average.
