Alex, known to many players as "Wojie", ranks with Fordham's greatest all-time football players. A consensus All-American in 1936 and 1937 at center, he was the mainstay of the famed second edition of the Seven Blocks of Granite. After graduation he played professional football for 13 seasons and was All-Pro with the Detroit Lions in 1939 and 1940. After retiring in 1951, he turned to real estate as a career. He is a member of both the College and Professional Football Halls of Fame. He was also a professional football scout and President of the National Football League Alumni Association.
