A four-year varsity letter winner and two-time captain, Boles recorded one of the lowest career goals against average in Fordham soccer history and he was named "Keeper of the 70's". Boles played for one of the top defensive teams in the East in the 1970's and was named to the Metropolitan All-Star Team in 1976 and 1977. The Met All-Star Team competed against the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League, a team which featured soccer legend Pele, Frank Beckenbauer, and Georgio Chinaglia, and the Apollo of the American Soccer League. In the summer of 1977, Boles traveled to Europe with Fordham head coach Frank Schnur and the Long Island Select Team to participate in prestigious international tournaments.
