Marcel Philippe finished second in the World University Games in Moscow in 1973, at his specialty, the ½ mile.

He set the school record in the indoor 1000-yard event in 1971 at 2:08.2 and the indoor mile run in 1972 at 4:04.0, and added to his school records in the outdoor 800-meter run in 1972 at 1:47.5.

Philippe went on to compete at the 1972 U.S. Olympic trials, finishing seventh in the 800-meter finals, running 1:46.0.
