Fairfax, Va. – The Fordham men's track and field team currently stands in eighth place after day one of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship, which is being held at George Mason's Field House. Fordham set themselves up well for Sunday's finals, as a total of six Rams qualified among five events.
Junior Thomas Slattery placed fifth in the
5,000 meter run on Saturday.

With four events completed, Rhode Island leads the competition with 65 points, followed by George Mason's 45. Davidson is in third with 22.5, Â Saint Louis with 15, Massachusetts and Saint Joseph's with 14, La Salle with 10, Fordham at 5.5, George Washington with four and VCU with two.

Leading the way for the Rams was
Louis Santelli who won his heat in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:54.71.
Michael Petersen will join Santelli in Sunday's finals, as he finished eighth in a time of 1:56.53.

Fordham also scored in the 5,000 meter run, the 500 meter run, the 60 meter dash and the pole vault.
Thomas Slattery finished fifth in the 5,000 meter run, recording a time of 14:57.64,
Jared Benn placed eighth in the 500 meter run in a season best time of 1:05.77,
Richard Webber finished eighth in the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.08 and
Ryan Riviere cleared a season-best height of 14' 3 ¼" to tie for seventh place in the pole vault.

Webber and Benn also had impressive performances in the 200 meter dash, just missing the finals finishing ninth and tenth in times of 22.39 and 22.43, respectively.

Other individual performers on Saturday included
Patrick Dineen (12
th – 2:33.16) and
Sean Phillips (16
th – 2:38.02) in the 1,000 meter run,
Griffin Bilicic (18
th – 53.24) in the 400 meter dash,
Jake Duckworth (21
st – 15:45.86) in the 5,000 meter run and
Michael Campbell finished 22
nd in the 500 meter run in a season-best time of 1:11.23. Riviere currently sits in 12
th place in the heptathlon with 2, 097 points.

The final event of day one was the distance medley relay, where Fordham's team of
Nik O'Brien,
Andre Guthrie, Jr.,
Fritz Heinrich, and
Ryan Kutch finished ninth in 10:24.30.

Sunday's action at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship begins at 9:00 AM.
