Randall's Island, N.Y. – (April 6, 2024) – For the second time in the last three years, the Fordham women's track & field team won the Metropolitan Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island.
Fordham posted a winning team score of 173 points, besting 14 other teams at the Championship.
The Rams won five events on the day to go along with eight second place finishes, beginning in the field events.
Michaela Gier kicked things off by winning the pole vault event with a school record height of 11' 3 ¾", bettering her own mark of 10' 10", set earlier this season.
Fordham also picked up field event wins in the long jump and high jump events.
Leia Ruvo took the top spot in the long jump at 16' 10 ¾", while
Zoe Arakelian grabbed first in the high jump at 5' 2 ¼".
Skylar Harris and
Lexi Fujita scored in those events as well with Harris being third in the long jump (16' 8 ¾") and Fujita taking second in the high jump (5' ¼"). Additionally, Ruvo scored in the triple jump, placing second at 35' 8 ¼", while
Ashley Holbrook scored sixth at 32' 7 ¾". The final scoring field event was the shot put with
Sarah Cooley (36' 9 ¾") and
Tanicha Saintigene (36' 7 ¼") placing seventh and eighth, respectively.
The remaining event wins for the Rams came in relay events. The Rams were first in the 4x100 relay, as
Dillyn Green, Harris,
Caroline Fallona, and
Kyla Hill clocked in at 47.93 seconds, while the 4x400 relay of
Alexandra Williams,
Michele Daye, Green, and Hill recorded a winning time of 3:52.16. Fordham then scored fourth in the 4x800 relay with
Megan McCann,
Carolyn Cardell,
Quincy Biddle, and
Brenna Sears posting a time of 9:58.26.
In the individual events, the scoring started in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with
Clodagh McGroary placing third in 11:27.93.
Next was the 1,500 meters, where three Rams scored in the event.
Meredith Gotzman led the way in second place in a season-best time of 4:44.54, followed by
Mary Kathryn Underwood in fifth (4:50.09) and
Madeleine Ryan in eighth (4:58.40).
The 100-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles saw Fordham grab second in both events.
Kylie Ritz was second in the hurdles in 15.26 seconds with
Nicole Lytle in third at 15.65 seconds. Harris then scored in her second event of the day in the 100-meter dash in 12.52 seconds.
After scoring in the 4x400 relay, Williams and Daye netted Fordham points in the 400-meter dash with Daye in second place in a season-best time of 58.77 seconds and Williams in fifth at 59.38.
In the 800-meter dash, Sears and Gotzman scored fifth (2:19.53) and seventh (2:21.50), respectively, while a trio of Rams posted scoring times in the 400-meter hurdles. Ritz was second in a season-best time of 1:06.52, followed by
Sophia Crucs in fourth (1:09.42) and Lytle in fifth (1:0.82).
The final two events were the 200-meter dash and 5,000 meters, where Hill placed third in the 200 meters at 25.71 seconds, while
Sarah Zahaykevich was second in the 5,000 meters (17:39.82).
The Rams are next in action on April 12-13 at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University.
