Fairfax, Va. - The Fordham track & field team opened competition at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia, where the Rams sit in sixth place in the men's competition and tenth in the women's championship.
It was a record-breaking start for Fordham as the Rams saw two school records fall on day one.
Laurel Fisher finished third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a school-record time of 10:25.01, shattering the previous mark of 10:39.55 set by
Brianna Tevnan in 2015.
Mary Kate Kenny also set the school-record in the 200 meter dash, breaking her old mark in a time of 24.58, qualifying her for Sunday's final with an eighth place finish.
The other highlight of the night for the Rams came in the men's 10,000 meter run where sophomore
Ryan Kutch defended his title, earning First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors winning the event for the second consecutive year in a time of 30:39.80.
Abigail Taylor and
Thomas Slattery were the other event scorers for the Rams on day one as Taylor placed eighth in the 10,000 meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 36:19.71, while Slattery finished fourth in the 10,000 meter run in an IC4A qualifying time of 30:55.15.
On the women's side,
Merissa Wright qualified for the finals in the 800 meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:09.23 and
Mary Kate Kenny qualified for the finals in the 100 and 200 meter dashes in times of 12.24 and 24.8, respectively.

Jennifer Boerke (12
th – 1:04.95), Kelly (12
th – 24.72) in the 200 meter dash,
Sydney Snow (13
th – 11:08.72) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and

th – 103' 2") in the javelin throw.
On the men's side,
Kyle Mack qualified for Sunday's final in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.00 seconds, good for an eighth place finish.
Other top performers for the Rams included
Christopher Strzelinski (14
th – 1:54.04) and
Arthur Gooden Jr. (25
th - Â 1:57.50) in the 800 meter run,
Jordon Dabney (17
th – 22.44) in the 200 meter dash,
Brian Cook (15
th – 9:55.65) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and
Nikolas Reardon (12
th – 21' 7 ½").
Andrew Byrne currently sits in sixth place in the decathlon with 2,857 points through five events.
The final day of competition begins at 9 am on Sunday.
