Box ScoreWest Point, N.Y. (February 27, 2015) – After the weather kept the Fordham women's tennis squad out of action for over three weeks, the Rams returned to action today with a 4-3 win over Army at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
The Rams opened play by dropping the doubles point, losing two of three double matches. Fordham's
Elliesa Ball and
Sarah Ali defeated Army's Eva Sung and Elle Taylor at first doubles, 8-4, but Army's Carolyn Pitman and Julian Mok upended
Estelle Wong and
Julie Leong at second doubles, 8-5, and Victoria Falk and Maya Parker took third doubles from
Carolina Sa and
Anika Novacek, 8-3.
Fordham rebounded from the double losses to win four of the six singles matches to pull out the 4-3 win. Ball took first singles from Haley O'Connor in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, while Ali was also victorious in straight sets, winning the second position from Taylor, 6-1, 6-3.
At fourth singles,
Julie Leong defeated Parker, 6-3, 6-3, and
Destiny Grunin picked up the fourth singles win for the Rams, taking fifth singles from Falk, 7-6, 6-0.
The Rams return to action on Sunday, March 1, as they travel to Amherst, Mass., to face the University of Massachusetts at 12:30 p.m.
