Hilton Head, S.C. – The Fordham women's tennis team wrapped up its Spring Break trip to South Carolina the same way they started: with a shutout. On Thursday, it was a 4-0 win over George Mason University at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort.
"I'm really pleased with our first week outdoors," said head coach
Michael Sowter. "The attitude and energy was excellent and it's always sweeter when the wins are against conference opponents. We played an exceptionally difficult indoor schedule so I'm looking forward to having everyone come out and support us a during our final stretch of home matches!"
The Rams opened play against George Mason by taking the doubles point, winning both completed matches.
Nevena Kolarevic and
Julianne Nguyen upended Cenan Liu and Mary Young, 6-2, and
Valerija Kargina and
Lily Chitambar defeated Maya Bayat and Brooklyn Siegel, 6-3.
Fordham then took the first three completed singles matches, all in straight sets, to take home the 4-0 victory.
Paola Dalmonico was victorious at first singles over Liu, 6-2, 6-3, while Kargina blanked Maitree Rout at second singles, 6-0, 6-0. Chitambar picked up the other singles win for the Rams with a 6-0, 6-4 decision over Young at the fourth position.
