Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis squad hosted the Fordham Invitational on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts in an event which was shortened to two days by weather.
Competing for the Rams were senior
Lily Chitambar, junior
Luana Paiva, and sophomore
Isabella Aguiar.
Paiva fell to Columbia's Amber Lin in her first match, 6-4, 6-3, while Chitambar played Columbia's Margaret Hui, dropping the first set, 6-2, before winning the second, 6-4. Chitambar was head in the third, 3-1, when the match was halted. Chitambar also defeated Tarleton State's Maria Castano in singles play, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7.
In doubles action, Chitambar and Paiva teamed to defeated Rianna Ioana Coreisa and Aya Ishii of Tarleton State, 8-6, while
Isabella Aguiar partnered with Wagner's Alexia Estrada to defeat Tarleton State's Erika Abraham-Nilsen and Arushan Nuranbay, 8-5.
The Rams return to action on October 15 as members of the team will compete at the ITA Northeast Regionals at Princeton University.
