BRONY, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis team had its first spring match on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts and made quick work of the match, shutting out Saint Joseph's 4-0 on Sunday.
Fordham opened the match taking the doubles point, winning both completed doubles matches.
Lily Chitambar and
Valerija Kargina won at second doubles over Elena Fleming and June Tronhus, 6-1, and
Catalina Padilla and
Paola Dalmonico took third doubles from Valeria Casusol and Amari O'Brien by the same score.
The Rams then won the match by winning the first three singles matches, all in straight sets. Padilla upended Elena Fleming at second singles, 6-2, 6-1;
Julianne Nguyen shut out Casusol at the third position, 6-0, 6-0; and
Aya Matsunaga defeated Tronhus, 6-2, 6-0, at fifth singles.
