BRONX, N.Y. – Fordham sophomore Paola Dalmonico and freshman Valerija Kargina were named Under Armour Women's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, it was announced today. It is the first weekly award of the year for each.
 
In three Fordham wins on the team's Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., Dalmonico went a perfect 3-0 in singles play, all in straights sets and 2-0 in doubles play. She opened the week with a 6-3, 6-2 win over George Washington's Victoria Sasinka on second singles on Wednesday and later that day upended South Carolina State's Katerina Marsalkova, 6-0, 6-3, at first singles. The next day Dalmonico defeated Cenan Liu from George Mason, 6-2, 6-3, at first singles.
 
In doubles action, Dalmonico teamed with Catalina Padilla to win both second doubles matches on Wednesday by identical 6-2 scores.
 
Kargina was 2-0 in singles play and was leading in the other match when play was halted. She defeated George Washington's Madison Lee, 6-3, 6-2, at third singles on Wednesday and shutout George Mason's Maitree Rout, 6-0, 6-0, at second singles on Thursday.
 
In doubles play, Kargina teamed with Lily Chitambar to take second singles from George Mason on Thursday, 6-3. Her other two doubles matches were halted when Fordham clinched the doubles point.
