Hilton Head, S.C. – The Fordham women's tennis team got its Spring Break trip to South Carolina off to a hot start, shutting out George Washington, 7-0, and South Carolina State, 4-0, at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort.
 
The Rams opened play against George Washington by taking the doubles point, winning both completed matches. Nevena Kolarevic and Julianne Nguyen upended Karen Verduzco and Madison Lee at first doubles, 6-0, before Paola Dalmonico and Catalina Padilla took a 6-2 decision from Devika Manu and Alexandra Lindqvist at the third position.
 
Fordham then swept the singles matches, all in straight sets. Kolarevic defeated Solange Skeene at first singles, 6-0, 7-5, while Dalmonico took care of Victoria Sasinka, 6-3, 6-2, at second singles. Valerija Kargina picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lee at third singles and Padilla knocked off Lindqvist at the fourth position, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. Nguyen defeated Verduzco at fifth singles, 6-2, 7-5, and Lily Chitambar took sixth singles from Manu, 6-4, 7-5.
 
In the afternoon Fordham again opened by taking the doubles point, winning both completed matches. Kolarevic and Nguyen defeated Ashikha Amalnathan and Valeria Teran at first doubles, 6-2, and Dalmonico and Padilla took down Iriela Rajaobelina and Cassandra Lecoanet at the third position.
 
The Ras then won the first three completed singles matches for the win. Kolarevic upended Katerina Marsalkova at first singles, 6-0, 6-3; Dalmonico defeated Teran at third singles, 6-3, 6-2; and Aya Matsunaga was victorious at fifth singles over Rajaobelina, 6-0, 6-3.
