Women’s Track & Field in 12th at A-10 Championship

Meredith Gotzman Scores in the Steeplechase, while Michaela Gier & Lexie Williams Set School Records

Fairfax, Va. – (May 3, 2025) – The Fordham women's track & field team sits in 12th place at the 2025 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship, which is being held at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Five events and all preliminaries were completed on day one before a weather delay prevented the 10,000-meter event to be completed as Katarina Birimac was leading at the 4,800-meter split with Sarah Zahaykevich in ninth.  That event will be restarted on Sunday morning.

Fordham scored in one event on Saturday, as Meredith Gotzman placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a personal-best time of 10:50.55.

Additionally, Fordham qualified for one Sunday final in the 400-meter dash.  Alexandra Williams qualified fourth overall in the 400 meters in a school record time of 55.41 seconds, besting the mark of 55.56 by Titi Fagade in 2012.  She also competed in the 200-meter dash, placing 18th in 24.88 seconds.  The final sprint event was the 100-meter dash, where Caroline Fallona was 24th in 12.43 seconds.

In the field events, Michaela Gier just missed scoring in the pole vault, as she broke her own school record, clearing 12' ¾" for ninth overall.  Sarah Cooley competed in both the javelin throw (107' 3") and hammer throw (123' 9"), placing 10th and 19th, respectively.

Lastly, Leia Ruvo is 13th in the heptathlon through the first four events with a score of 2,470 points.  She was second in the 200-meter dash (25.80), third in the high jump (5' 3 ¼"), 11th in the shot put (31' 7 ¼") and 13th in the 100-meter hurdles (18.86).
