Charlottesville, Va./Piscataway, N.J. – (April 19, 2025) – The Fordham track & field team had a split squad effort on Saturday, as the Rams finished competition at the two-day Virginia Challenge, hosted by the University of Virginia, while also taking part in the Rutgers Relays at Rutgers University.
In Virginia, Fodham was in seven events starting with the 800-meter run.
Brenna Sears was the top Ram in the women's 800 meters at 2:15.97, good for 45
th overall, while
Megan McCann was 52
nd in 2:17.38. In the men's event, a trio of runners bettered their IC4A qualifying mark, as
Ben Borchers was 11
th in a season-best time of 1:51.99, followed by
Rodolfo Sanchez in 21
st at 1:52.80 and
Nathan Bezuneh in 24
th at 1:53.07.
Sean Reidy finished 28
th overall in 1:53.34 with
John Corrigan in 50
th at 1:54.63.
Next was the women's 100-meter hurdles, where
Kylie Ritz posted a season-best and ECAC qualifying mark of 14.34 seconds, good for 26
th place, while
Nicole Lytle was 40
th overall in 15.14 seconds.
The 400-meter dash was the next event with a total of five runners.
Dillyn Green placed 58
th in the women's event at 58.05 seconds, while
Sam Freeman was 48
th in the men's event at 49.44 seconds, followed by
Nelson Lindsay (55
th – 49.79),
Matthew Nurse (60
th – 50.05), and
Dakota Strain (61
st – 50.18).
The last event for the Rams at the Virginia Challenge was the men's 200-meter dash.
Njam Abdul-Latif posted a season-best and IC4A time of 21.15 seconds to finish eighth overall, while Freeman also qualified for the IC4A Championship with a time of 21.99 seconds, which was 42
nd. Nurse (52
nd – 22.34) and
Liam Volz (55
th – 22.39) rounded out the competitors in the 200 meters.
At Rutgers, Fordham won two events on Saturday, starting over in the field events.
Leia Ruvo and
Zoe Arakelian tied for first in the high jump, clearing 5' 3". The jumping events continued with
Ileana Chlorou placing tenth in the long jump at 17' 1" and
Ashley Holbrook taking 11
th in the triple jump (35' 4").
Luke Cramer was tenth on the men's side of the triple jump at 42' 6 ¼".
Then in the throwing events,
Tanicha Saintigene was sixth in the women's shot put at 39' 7 ½" with
Sarah Cooley grabbing ninth with a distance of 35' 3 ¼". Cooley also grabbed 13
th in the discus throw at 99' 2". Lastly in the javelin throw,
Leia Ruvo was fourth in the women's event at 105' 11", while
James Alati was the top Ram on the men's side, taking sixth at 177' 1".
Over the track side,
Tadael Mihret won the men's 5,000 meters in a season-best time of 14:58.86, while Bradfrod Duchesne was second in 14:59.41.
Madeleine Ryan grabbed third in the women's event at 18:36.94. Then in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Ciara McGroary placed second in 12:23.63.
The hurdle events saw
Ellie Harkins finished sixth in the women's 400-meter hurdles (1:08.99) with Ruvo in ninth place in the 100-meter hurdles (15.73). Then, it was
George Pomer grabbing 13
th in the 110-meter hurdles (15.89).
The Rams then moved to the sprints with
Jonah Coleman in 17
th in the men's 100 meters (11.39), while
Caroline Fallona posted a season-best time of 12.45 seconds in the women's event, taking tenth overall. The women's 200-meter dash saw
Sara Labor as the top Ram, grabbing sixth in 25.66 seconds.
The last events for Fordham were the 800 and 1,500 meters where
Darren Croke was the top men's performer in the men's 800 meters at 1:58.65 (10
th) with
Lauren Raimy being the best women's runner at 2:20.58 (9
th).
Kate Meeks was the top Ram in the women's 1,500 meters at 4:55.84 (5
th) with
Matthew Febles being tenth in the men's event at 4:11.27.
Fordham will next be in action on April 24-26 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
