Charlottesville, Va. – (April 18, 2025) – Members of the Fordham track & field team opened a busy weekend of action on Friday at day one of the Virginia Challenge, hosted by the University of Virginia.
Over the course of the day, the Rams competed in three men's events and four women's events.
First up was the 100-meter dash, where
Nicole Lytle posted a time of 12.75 seconds, good for 64
th in the women's event, while
Njam Abdul-Latif recorded an IC4A qualifying time of 10.54 seconds in a +3.9 wind adjustment conversion, good for 11
th overall with
Liam Volz in 60
th place (10.99 – wind adjusted).
Matthew Mason then took part in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, where he took 17
th overall in 9:21.15.
Next was the 1,500-meter runs, where the Rams had three runners in the men's and women's event. The women's trio of
Meredith Gotzman,
Megan McCann, and
Brenna Sears finished 34
th (4:41.29), 35
th (4:41.64), and 36
th (4:42.74), respectively, while
Nathan Bezuneh and
Rodolfo Sanchez both took spots in the top ten. Bezuneh was fourth in 3:49.65 with Sanchez in sixth at 3:50.01.
Sean Reidy was the final runner in the 1,500 meters, recording a time of 4:02.72 (62
nd).
The final events for the women were the 400-meter hurdles and the 5,000-meter run.
Kylie Ritz recorded an ECAC qualifying time of 1:03.31 in the 400-meter hurdles, good for 14
th, while Lytle was 29
th in 1:07.53. Then in the 5,000 meters, both
Katarina Birimac and
Sarah Zahaykevich had ECAC qualifying times, as Birimac ran 16:31.83, while Zahaykevich went 17:17.00.
Fordham will be in split locations on Saturday with the Rams finishing competition at the Virginia Challenge, while also taking part in the Rutgers Relays in Piscataway, N.J.
