Virginia Beach, Va. – (February 28, 2025) – Competition at the 2025 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship began on Friday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Through six events, the Fordham women's team has 19 points for fifth place in the team standings.
The scoring started with
Leia Ruvo in the pentathlon, as she placed fifth with a season-best score of 3,437 points. Her best finishes came in the high jump (3
rd – 5' 4 ½"), 800 meters (4
th - 2:27.49), and long jump (5
th – 17' 4 ¾"). She also ran 9.31 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and posted a distance of 28' 3 ½" in the shot put.
Jasmine Hope also scored fifth for Fordham in the long jump event with a mark of 18' 5 ¼". She was also Fordham's top performer in the 200-meter dash (23
rd – 25.86).
The Rams then scored in the final two events on Saturday, highlighted by a gold medal winning run by
Katarina Birimac. She became the first Ram to win the women's 5,000-meter run, posting a season-best time of 16:36.06.
Sarah Zahaykevich just missed scoring for the Rams in the event, taking ninth in 17:21.57.
The last event was the distance medley relay, where
Sophia Oliva,
Dillyn Green,
Brenna Sears, and
Meredith Gotzman scored eighth in a season-best time of 12:04.61.
On top of scoring in four events, Fordham also qualified for two Saturday finals.
Kylie Ritz qualified eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.87 seconds, while
Sara Labor was seventh in the 500-meter run preliminaries at 1:16.75.
The Rams competed in six other events on Friday.
Michele Daye ran in the 400-meter dash, placing 13
th in 58.08 seconds, while
Caroline Fallona was the top Ram in the 60-meter dash in 20
th at 7.98 seconds.
Kathleen Keefe had the best Fordham time in the 800 meters, as she just missed Saturday's final in ninth place (2:18.71). Then in the 1,000 meters,
Megan McCann recorded the Rams' best time at 2:58.17, good for 13
th overall.
In the field events,
Michaela Gier placed 13
th in the pole vault, clearing 10' 10 ¾", while
Sarah Cooley was 16
th in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 46' 2 ¾".
Action on day two of the Championship starts at 9:00 AM on Saturday.
