New York, N.Y. / Boston, Mass. – (January 25, 2025) – The Fordham track & field team finished its split squad weekend on Saturday, taking part in the Dr. Sander Scorcher, hosted by Columbia in New York, and the River Hawk Invitational, hosted by UMass Lowell in Boston.
Just like Friday, the Rams saw a school record fall, but this time it was at the Sander Scorcher at the Nike Track & Field Center at the Armory.
Rodolfo Sanchez broke Marcel Philippe's 1972 school record of 4:04 in the mile run on Saturday, as Sanchez clocked in at 4:02.86, placing seventh overall in the mile invitational event.
Sean Reidy (4:09.40) and
Nathan Bezuneh (4:12.51) also placed 22
nd and 28
th, respectively in the event. In the women's mile invitational,
Meredith Gotzman was 28
th overall in 5:03.19.
Then in the open mile event,
Lucas Rohde placed 54
th in the men's event at 4:29.55, while
Sophia Oliva (5:12.34) and
Lauren Raimy (5:17.97) were 27
th and 38
th respectively in the women's event. The final competitor for the Rams in New York was
Katarina Birimac in the women's 5,000-meter invitational, as she was sixth overall in 16:54.17.
In Boston at the track by New Balance, it was the women's events on display after the men competed on Friday.
Jasmine Hope led the Rams' sprinter with two top-three finishes. In the 60-meter dash, she was the top collegian finisher in second place at 7.69 seconds, while taking third in the 200-meter dash invitational in 24.81 seconds.
Dillyn Green was also in both events, ending up 20
th in the 60-meter dash (8.03) and 24
th in the 200 meters (25.75).
Other competitors in 200-meter invitational included
Alexandria Yarbrough (12
th – 25.25),
Sara Labor (T17th - 25.56), and
Michele Daye (25
th – 25.96), while
Alexandra Williams was third in the 200-meter open event in 25.76 seconds.
Labor, Yarbrough, and Williams returned to the track in the 400-meter invitational, finishing third (56.69), 15
th (58.52), and 16
th (58.69), respectively.
Kylie Ritz rounded out the track events, as she was eighth overall in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.96 seconds.
In the field events,
Zoe Arakelian had the best finish in fifth place for the high jump, clearing 5' 5", while
Alexandra Manetovic tied for sixth, clearing 5' 3". Manetovic was then sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 37' 4 ½", followed by
Leia Ruvo in 10
th (36' 3") and
Ashley Holbrook in 15
th (34' 6 ¾"). Ruvo then wrapped the day's competition by placing 15
th in the long jump at 17' 2 ¼".
The Rams are next in action on Friday, January 31
st, as they compete at the Metropolitan Championship held at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island.
