Stony Brook, N.Y. – (March 16, 2024) – The Fordham track & field team began its outdoor season on Saturday at the Snowflake Classic, hosted at Stony Brook University.
Close to 30 Rams saw action on Saturday, highlighted by four event wins, all of which came in women's events.
Kylie Ritz took first place in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.16 seconds, while the other three wins came in field events.
Lexi Fujita tied for first in the high jump, clearing 4' 11" with
Ashley Holbrook winning the long jump with a mark of 16' 5".
Tanicha Saintigene then took the top spot in the shot put at 39' ½".
Other top performers included
Anna Maria Ivits in the 200 meters (5
th – 26.82),
Nicole Lytle in the 400 meters (1:02.38),
Alexandra Thomas in the 800 meters (3
rd – 2:25.31),
Kate Meeks in the 3,000 meters (3
rd – 10:46.60), and
Brenna Sears in the mile run (4
th – 5:19.40).
On the men's side,
Liam Volz and
Sam Freeman were the top performers, as each earned a second place finish. Volz was second in the 400 meters at 51.60 seconds, while Freeman was runner up in the 800 meters at 2:01.31.
Darren Croke and
Tadael Mihret had double duty, taking part in multiple events. Croke was fourth in the 400 meters (52.65) and third in the mile (4:26.86), with Mihret taking fifth in the 800 meters (2:05.04) and the mile run (4:32.85).
George Pomer was also in two events on Saturday, finishing third in the shot put (27' 9 ½") and seventh in the 400 meters (54.91). The remaining top performer was
Jonah Coleman, who was sixth in the 200 meters at 24.60 seconds.
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, March 23
rd at the Rider 5-Way Invitational, starting at noon.
