Staten Island, N.Y. – (February 10, 2024) – While select members of the team were in Boston, the rest of the Fordham track & field team took part in the Big Apple Invitational, held at the Ocean Breeze Park Complex on Staten Island.
The Rams had a good day with 14 top ten finishes, led by
Christopher Martinez in the 500-meter run, who was second overall in 1:06.33.
Other top finishers for the men's team were
Kevin Callaghan in the 200-meter dash, who placed seventh in 22.42 seconds, while
Darren Croke was ninth in the 800-meter run in 1:58.28. In the 3,000-meter run,
Jack Boerger was Fordham' top finisher in 15
th place at 8:44.31.
On the women' side,
Leia Ruvo was the top finisher, taking fourth in the high jump, clearing a season-best 5' 4 ½".
Alexandra Manetovic and
Anya Alfonsetti-Terry also finished in the top ten of the high jump, as they tied for ninth, clearing 5' 1".
In other field events,
Skylar Harris was tenth in the long jump with a mark of 17' 5 ½" with
Michaela Gier once again tying her school record in the pole vault, clearing 10' 10", which was 13
th overall.
Ashley Holbrook grabbed 18
th in the triple jump with a distance of 34' 2 ¼" with
Sarah Cooley taking 16
th in the shot put (37' 0") and 25
th in the weight throw (43' 3").
The track events saw a pair of top tens in the 800 meters to start things, as
Kate Meeks (2:21.01) and
Molly Mulvaney (2:21.80) finished sixth and ninth, respectively. There was also a pair of top tens in the 60-meter hurdles with
Kylie Ritz in eighth at 9.17 seconds and
Nicole Lytle in tenth at 9.28 seconds.
The remaining top tens were in the mile, 60-meter dash, and 3,000-meter run. The mile run saw
Alexandra Thomas grab eighth with a time of 5:17.04 with
Caroline Fallona being ninth in the 60-meter dash at 8.14 seconds. Lastly,
Sarah Zahaykevich was tenth in the 3,000-meter run in 10:24.35.
Other top event performers were
Alexandra Williams in the 200-meter dash (11
th – 25.89) and
Anna Maria Ivits in the 400-meter dash (17
th – 1:01.35)
The Rams will next be in action at the 116
th Millrose Games on Sunday afternoon, as Fordham will compete in the collegiate 4x400 relays.
