AUSTIN, Texas – The 2022-23 Academic All-America® men's track & field/cross country teams as selected by the College Sports Communicators were released on Thursday.  A total of 179 talented student-athletes were honored over four Academic All-America® teams, posting a 3.87 average grade-point average with 52 members posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.

One of those selected on Thursday with a perfect 4.0 GPA was Fordham senior harrier Nolan Chiles (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manilus), who received Third Team honors.  He is the first Fordham runner to earn Academic All-America® accolades since Barry Cantrell did so in 1998.

Chiles graduated from Fordham this past May with a degree in Integrative Neuroscience and was the Class of 2023 Valedictorian.  He served as President of Alpha Sigma Nu, the international Jesuit honor society, and had heavy involvement with the Honors American Catholic Studies program through Fordham University's Curran Center.

A tutor for Fordham HEOP and Breakthrough New York, an organization at providing academic services to underserved youth, Chiles presented two Neuroscience research projects at a handful of Fordham/American Chemical Society conference.  He will attend medical school beginning in July at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

A four-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, he had his most complete season in 2022-23, setting personal-bests on the 8K cross country course and four track events, including the indoor 1,000 meters and mile run and the outdoor 800 and 1,500 meters.

During the 2023 indoor season, Chiles was 13th in the mile run at the Atlantic 10 Championship, while placing tenth in the 1,000 meters at the Metropolitan Championship.  Then in the outdoor campaign, he was tenth in the 1,500 meters at the Metropolitan Championship and 28th at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
