New York, N.Y. – (February 11, 2022) – It's a busy weekend for the Fordham track & field team, as the Rams are splitting the team between the two-day Rutgers Invitational at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York and the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston.
For the Rams competing on day one of the Rutgers Invitational,
Kathryn Kelly had the standout performance, as she won the long jump event with a school record mark of 19' 5", breaking the previous mark of 19' 2 ½" set by Kerstin Greene in 2007.
Skylar Harris also finished in the top ten in the long jump with a distance of 17' 8 ¼".
Kelly also advanced to the day two semifinals of the 60-meter dash, along with teammate
Kyla Hill. Kelly posted a time of 7.73 seconds with Hill clocking in at 7.78 seconds.
In the 400 meters,
Dominique Valentine posted a season-best time of 58.25 seconds, which was good for 13
th overall.
Michele Daye was the next Ram in the standings in 34
th at 1:00.77, followed by
Ruby Avila in 41
st (1:02.40) and
Sophia Crucs in 46
th (1:03.12).
Alec Wargo
The last women's event on day one was the 1,000 meters, where
Abigail Llach was 23
rd overall in 3:07.21, while
Angelica Piccini took 25
th in 3:10.52.
In the men's competition, Fordham was in six events with the top performers being
Alec Wargo, who took eighth place in the weight throw (46' 6") and
Justin Lombardi, who was eighth in the 1,000 meters (2:30.83).
Then in the 400 meters,
Erik Brown placed 17
th overall in 51.06 seconds with
Safo Kirton in 26
th at 54.38 seconds. The 60-meter dash then saw
Manuel Alfonso Guzman finished 21
st overall in 7.32 seconds.
Next was the mile run where
Nolan Chiles was 31
st overall in 4:28.13 with
John Arvantides taking 37
th in 4:42.30.
The final event on day one was the long jump, where
Justin Rhee (7
th) and
Eric Galante (13
th) each finished in the top 15.
Day two of the Rutgers Invitational is on Saturday, starting at 10:00 AM.
