New York, N.Y. – (January 15, 2021) – The Fordham track & field team took part in their third meet of the season on Saturday night, competing at the Lions Indoor Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey.
The Rams had a strong evening with saw nine season-best performances, as well as five second place finishes.
In the men's events, the Rams were led by the tandem of
Zalen Nelson and
Rodolfo Sanchez. Nelson grabbed second in the mile run in a season-best time of 4:18.66, while Sanchez was second in the 3,000-meter run in a season-best time of 8:36.47.
Nathan Bezuneh also had a strong showing in the 3,000 meters, placing sixth in 8:43.22.
The sprints saw
Robert LeFevre as the top Ram, taking ninth in the 200 meters (23.08) and 14
th in the 60 meters (7.26), while
Antony Misko was eighth in the 400-meter dash (52.35).
The mid-distance races saw
Jeremiah LaDuca,
Jack Reilly, and
Jack O'Connell each have a top ten finish in the 500 meters. LaDuca was fourth overall in 1:06.17, followed by Reilly in ninth (1:11.19) and O'Connell in tenth (1:11.39). Then in the 800 meters,
Erik Brown led the way in sixth place at 1:57.55, while
Samuel Wilcox was eighth (1:57.55).
The final track event was the 4x400 relay where Brown, LaDuca, Misko, and
Eric Jacobson placed sixth in 3:29.60.
Over in the field events,
Andrew Ramsammy took second in the high jump, clearing 6' 2 ¾", while
Justin Rhee and
Eric Galante both finished in the top ten in the long jump. Rhee was fifth (21' 9 ½") and Galante was ninth (20' 7 ¾"). Then,
Alec Wargo was fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 46' 7 ¼".

On the women's side, the team was led by a quartet of runners finishing in the top eight of the mile run.
Taylor Mascetta was runner-up in second place in a season-best time of 5:12.89, followed by
Alexandra Thomas in fourth (5:15.32),
Marin Bogulski in seventh (5:24.66), and
Madeleine Ryan in eighth (5:26.93). Then in the 3,000-meter run,
Germaine Harbaugh was the top finisher inn fifth place in a season-best time of 10:33.50.
In the sprints,
Kathryn Kelly and
Kyla Hill each had two top seven performances. Kelly was fifth in the 60 meter dash at 7.74 seconds and sixth in the 200 meters at 25.18 seconds, while Hill was sixth in the 60 meters (7.74) and seventh in the 200 meters (25.47). The 400-meter dash saw
Sarah Galvin with the top performance, placing ninth in 1:01.73.
The mid-distance races saw Fordham do well with
Mary Kathryn Underwood placing sixth in the 500 meters in a season-best time of 1:18.79 with
Dominique Valentine in ninth (1:21.68). Then in the 800 meters,
Helen Connolly was second overall in 2:18.30 with
Jilli Jones in fourth (2:21.99), and
Angelica Piccini in ninth (2:27.29).
In the final track event, the 4x400 relay team of Valentine, Connolly, Galvin, and Jones were fifth in a season-best time of 4:07.21.
Over in the field events,
Casey Metzler and
Amanda Gurth were again solid. Metzler finished seventh in the weight throw (41' 2 ½") and the shot put (33' 5 ¾"), while Gurth was fifth in the shot put (35' 8") and 11
th in the weight throw (34' 7").
Skylar Harris added to the Rams' strong showing with a seventh pace finish in the long jump (17' 3 ¼"), as did
Bridie Bommentre in the triple jump (7
th – 31' 2 ¼").
The Rams are back in action on Friday, January 21
st, when the team competes at the Ramapo Open at the Armory Track & Field Center.
