Randall's Island, N.Y. – (April 9, 2021) – Competition got underway at the 2021 Metropolitan Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday afternoon at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island. Team scoring was not kept as some teams are not fully taking part in the Championship.
On day one, the Fordham women competed in five events – the 1,500 meters, the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the 5,000-meter run, the javelin thrown, and the hammer throw.

Leading the charge was a quartet of third place finishers, beginning with
Bridget Alex grabbing third in the 1,500-meter run in 4:54.06, just ahead of teammate
Nicoleta Papavasilakis, who was fourth in 4:54.80.
Sydney Snow was seventh overall in the event, clocking in at 5:00.12, with
Bridget White in eighth at 5:00.47.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Clodagh McGroary picked up a bronze finish, placing third in 12:19.18.
Then in the 5,000-meter run,
Maddy Kopec was third in a season-best time of 18:36.80, while teammate
Alexandra Thomas finished fifth in 19:32.14.
The last of the third place finishes came in the javelin throw, where
Sophia Jagoe-Seidl had a career-best throw of 128' 10 ½"
The final competitor on day one was
Casey Metzler, who was seventh overall in the hammer throw with a personal-best distance of 129' 10 ½".
The Metropolitan Championship concludes tomorrow with events starting at 2:00 PM.
