Galloway, N.J. – (April 16, 2021) – The Fordham track & field team kicked off a busy weekend on Friday, as the squad took part in the first of two meets this weekend at the Stockton Invitational #3, held at G. Larry James Stadium in Galloway, N.J. It was a good day for the Rams with six events wins, as well as a pair of career-best performances in the throwing events.
In the women's competition, four Rams came away with event wins, beginning with
Abigail Llach taking the top spot in the 800 meters in 2:24.35, ahead of teammates
Carolyn Cardell (7
th – 2:34.53) and
Julia Herms (10
th – 2:43.67).
Fordham also had the top finisher in the 1,500 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase, as
Maeve O'Connor was first in the 1,500 meters (5:16.93) with
Clodagh McGroary grabbing first in the steeplechase (12:16.10).
The final event winner was
Casey Metzler, as she won the hammer throw with a school record distance of 144' 7", breaking the previous mark of 143' 7", set by Ariana Washington in 2006. She also added an 11
th place finish in the shot put (31' 4"). Joining Metzler in the shot put was
Amanda Gurth, who had a career-best throw of 37' 5 ¾"to place third overall, while also finishing fifth in the discus throw (99' 8").

The Rams also had field event competitor in two other events, as
Sophia Jagoe-Seidl was third in the javelin throw (116' 11") and
Tara Coyne placed sixth in the pole vault (9' ¼").
In the remaining events, Fordham ran in the 100, 200, 400, and 3,000 meters. In the 100,
Elianna Bland was fourth in 14.48 seconds, while in the 200, Bland was 17
th (30.25) with
Kaley Bell in 18
th (30.66). The 400 meters saw
Molly Mulvaney and
Helen Connolly take fourth (1:03.02) and fifth (1:03.92), respectively, while
Nathania Tan (11:26.64) and
Alexandra Thomas (11:26.96) were fourth and fifth in the 3,000 meters with
Emmy Longmore in eighth (11:37.90).
On the men's side, a pair of freshmen earned event wins, beginning with
Justin Lombardi in the 1,500 meters, as he clocked in at 4:08.95. The Rams had four others place in top eight in the 1,500 meters with
Benedict Reilly in third (4:11.99),
Nolan Chiles in fifth (4:12.66),
Jack Craven in sixth (4:14.75), and
Jack Reilly in eighth (4:29.95).

The Rams' other event win came from
Justin Rhee, who placed first in the long jump, as he tied his season-best performance with a distance of 20' 10". He also added a second-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 43' 7 ¼". Additionally in the long jump,
Eric Galante placed third with a mar of 19' 6 ¾".
Fordham had one more competitor in the field events, as
Alec Wargo was third in the hammer throw (128' 11") and 11
th in the discus throw (104' 1").
The Rams also competed in four other running events – the 100, 200, 800, and 3,000 meters.
Manuel Alfonso Guzman placed fifth in the 100 meters (12.03) with
Robert LeFevre taking seventh in the 200 meters (23.75). There was a quartet of runners in the 800 meters, led by
Thomas Lewis, who was second in 1:58.39, followed by
Eric Jacobson in third (1:59.33),
Kevin Dineen in 13
th (2:07.65), and
Jack O'Connell in 18
th (2:13.05).
The last event was the 3,000 meters, which had
Steven Zucca finish second (8:57.52) with
Ryan Fahey in fourth (9:14.61) and
John Arvantides in 11
th (9:45.82).
The Rams will wrap up their busy weekend on Sunday at the Monmouth Meet in West Long Branch, N.J.
