Staten Island, N.Y. – (December 4, 2021) – The Fordham track & field team competed in their first indoor meet since March 2020 on Saturday night, opening the 2021-22 season at the Bill Ward Invitational, held at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex on Staten Island.
The Rams had a good start to the new campaign, led by junior
Kyla Hill, who won the women's 200 meter dash in a career-best time of 25.26 seconds. She was one of three Rams to finish in the top ten of the event, as
Sarah Galvin placed fourth (26.36) and
Skylar Harris was eighth (26.93). Hill added another top five finish earlier in the night, taking fifth in the 60-meter dash in a career-best 7.79 seconds.
Fordham also had three second place finishes on the night, which started with
Zalen Nelson taking runner-up in the men's 1,000 meter event in 2:24.90.
Casey Metzler had the next runner-up finish, which came in the women's weight throw with a distance of 46' 10". The final second place finish came in the final event of the night, where the men's 4x400 relay of
Antony Misko,
Erik Brown, Nelson, and
Isaiah James clocked in at 3:23.05.

The Rams would add three top five finishes in the jumping events, as
Kathryn Kelly grabbed third place in the women's long jump with a mark of 17' 2", while Harris was fifth at 16' 8 ½".
Jade Dyer-Kennedy then took fourth in the women's triple jump with a mark of 36' ¾". A final top five in the women's events came in the 4x400 relay, where
Michele Daye,
Jilli Jones, Emilia Foster, and
Ruby Avila took fifth in 4:09.06.
Other top performers on Saturday included
Alec Wargo in the men's weight throw (6
th – 47' 1 ¾"),
Robert LeFevre in the men's 200 meter dash (6
th – 23.01), Brown in the men's 500 meters (7
th – 1:05.98),
Helen Connolly in the women's 1,000 meters (7
th – 3:03.27), Daye in the women's 300 meter dash (8
th – 42.20),
Justin Rhee in the men's long jump (9th - 20' 10 3/4"),
Bridie Bommentre in the women's triple jump (9th - 33' 6 1/2"),
Dominique Valentine in the women's 500 meter dash (10
th – 1:20.33), and
Amanda Gurth in the women's shot put (10
th – 36' 1 ¼"). The men's 4x800 relay of
Eric Jacobson,
Benedict Reilly,
Jack Reilly, and
Jack O'Connell also finished in the top ten, taking seventh in 8:28.34.
The Rams' next meet will be after the holiday break.
