Men’s Track & Field Tied for Fourth at A-10 Championship

Nicholas Raefski Wins 5,000 Meter Run; Rams Tied for Fourth in Team Standings

Kingston, R.I. – (February 29, 2020) – The 2020 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship got underway on Saturday with five men's events taking place as well as preliminaries for a number of track events.
 
Rhode Island leads the team competition with 48 points, followed by George Mason (47), VCU (26), Fordham (19), Massachusetts (19), Davidson (13), Saint Joseph's (8), George Washington (6), Saint Louis (5), and La Salle (4).
 
Day one had a big highlight for the Rams, as Nicholas Raefski won the 5,000 meter run in 14:35.80, to earn First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors.  Fordham also saw Ryan Kutch score fourth in the 5K run in 14:41.97 with Brandon Hall in seventh in 14:53.97.
 
The Rams also scored in the distance medley relay, as Will Whelan, Arthur Gooden Jr., Zalen Nelson, and Patrick Tuohy placed seventh in 10:27.89.

On top of scoring in those two events, Fordham saw qualifiers in three of Sunday's finals.  Antony Misko qualified fourth in the 500 meters with a time of 1:06.06, as Kyle Mack (9th – 1:07.10), Jack Keegan (11th – 1:08.00), and Gooden (12th - 1:08.08) just missed out on the finals.
 
In the 800 meters, Jeremiah LaDuca qualified fifth for Sunday's final in 1:55.49, followed by Erik Brown (12th – 1:57.63), Nelson (13th – 1:58.18), and Jack Reilly (15th – 1:59.84).
 
Then, Christopher Strzelinski qualified fourth in the 1,000 meters in 2:30.30, while Sean Sullivan (12th – 2:32.54) and Whelan (13th – 2:33.42) just missed out on the finals.
 
Other competitors on day one included Jordan Milite placing 15th in the 400 meters (56.40), Alec Wargo taking 16th in the weight throw (48' 3 ½"), and Nik Reardon finishing 11th in the long jump (22' 5 ¼").
 
Fordham also had Andrew Byrne and Jeremy Milite competing in the heptathlon on day one and through four events with Byrne in 11th (2,278 pts.) and Milite in 12th (2,190 pts.).
 
The Championship concludes on Sunday with events starting at 11:00 AM.
