Amherst, Mass. – (May 4, 2019) – The 2019 Atlantic 10 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship got underway on Saturday at the UMass Track & Field Complex in Amherst, Massachusetts. Through day one, Fordham is currently fifth out of 12 teams with 29.5 points.
The Rams scoring came from trio of
Ryan Kutch,
Brian Cook, and
Nikolas Reardon over the course of four events.
Kutch and Cook both came away with event wins on Saturday. Kutch began the championship by winning the 10,000 meter run for the third consecutive year in a time of 30:03.60, while Cook finished the day off with a win in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 9:00.79.
Reardon's points came from his performance in the long jump and high jump events. He tied for third in the high jump, clearing 6' 5 ½", while placing fifth in the long jump with a distance of 22' 8 ½".
The Rams will have a chance for more scoring in the 800 meter run and the decathlon on Sunday.
Louis Santelli qualified third for the 800 meter finals with a time of 1:51.77, while
Andrew Byrne (3,069 pts.) and
Connor McKeown (3,013 pts.) are third and fifth respectively after five events in the decathlon.
Other top performers on Saturday were
Christopher Strzelinski in the 800 meters (10
th – 1:53.37), Raymond Rainville in the javelin throw (10
th – 161' 4"),
Ryan McGraw in the long jump (20' ½"), and
Chase Krug in the 400 meter hurdles (15
th – 56.46).
The Championship concludes on Sunday.
