Williamsburg, Va. – (April 5, 2019) – The 54
th Annual Colonial Relays, hosted by the College of William & Mary, got into full swing on Friday in Williamsburg, Virginia. It was a successful day one for the Fordham Rams, as the women are 12
th out of 33 teams that scored on Friday, while the men are 15
th out of 27 teams.
Highlighting the day were three event wins for the Fordham men.
Ryan Kutch continued his assault on the record book this season, as he won the 5,000 meter championship run in a school record and IC4A qualifying time of 14:04.48. He broke the previous mark of 14:12.2 by Dave Callahan in 1979.
The next event win was by
Brian Cook, as he captured first in the 1,500 meter university run in an IC4A qualifying time of 3:50.89, while
Sean Sullivan just missed an IC4A qualifier, placing 22
nd in 3:56.66.
The last event win was by
Nicholas Raefski, who won the 5,000 meter university run in 14:51.81.
The Rams just missed out on a couple of other event wins on Friday.
Christopher Strzelinski placed second in the 800 meter university run in an IC4A qualifying time of 1:53.68, while
Nikolas Reardon placed third in the long jump championship event with a mark of 21' 10 ¼" and third in the university high jump event, clearing 6' 1 ½".
Kathryn Kelly
Over in the women's competition,
Kathryn Kelly once again led the way, scoring in a pair of events. She took third in the 200 meter championship dash in 24.92 seconds, while grabbing fourth in the long jump championship event with a mark of 17' 5 ¼".
Laurel Fisher was also stellar in the steeplechase, placing third in a season-best time of 10:29.22.
The Rams ended the day with three other top ten finishes.
Katarzyna Krzyzanowski placed tenth in the 5,000 meter run in 17:07.41 with
Sophia Jagoe-Seidl taking third in the university javelin throw with a distance of 118' 10". Then in the 800 meter university run,
Kate McCormack finished sixth in a season-best time of 2:16.59.
Fordham also had a season-best time performance in the 1,500 meter university run, as
Sydney Snow took 13
th overall in 4:40.15.
The Colonial Relays wrap up on Saturday.
