Piscataway, N.J. – (April 13, 2019) – Much like day one, there were plenty of things to smile about for the Fordham track & field team on the final day of the 2019 Metropolitan Outdoor Track & Field Championship, held at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J.
The Fordham men finished second out of 12 teams with 136 points, behind only Rutgers with 273.5, while the Fordham women were third out of 12 teams with 124 points, behind St. John's (184) and Rutgers (166).
The day was highlighted by three event wins for the Rams.
Brian Cook won his second event of the championship, taking first in the 5,000 meter run in an IC4A qualifying time of 14:41.05. He was one of five scorers for the Rams in that event, followed by
Nicholas Raefski in second (15:05.38),
Ryan Kutch in third (15:06.26),
Brandon Hall in fourth (15:18.75), and
Patrick Donahue in eighth (15:48.29).
Then, it was a clean sweep of the 4x800 relays for the Rams. First, the women's team of
Sydney Snow,
Aidan Moroz,
Kate McCormack, and
Laurel Fisher, placed first in 9:19.69. Then, it was the men's team of
Christopher Strzelinski,
Sean Sullivan,
Jeremiah LaDuca, and
Louis Santelli taking first in 7:44.34.
For the other relays, Fordham scored in both 4x400 relays and the men's 4x100 relay. In the men's 4x100,
Jared Benn, Andre Guthrie Jr.,
Ryan McGraw, and
Jordan Allen placed sixth in 42.86 seconds. The women's 4x400 relay place took third, as
Sarinnagh Budris,
Dominique Valentine,
Gabrielle Schreib, and
Dana Beggins clocked in at 3:57.75, while the men's 4x400 relay of
Kyle Mack, Arthur Gooden, Jr.,
Chase Krug, and Benn was second in 3:20.03.
Besides the relays, the Rams also had a number of ECAC/IC4A qualifiers. Santelli was an IC4A qualifier in the 800 meters, taking third in 1:53.33, as was Strzelinski, who was fifth in 1:53.78. On the women's side, Moroz grabbed second in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:10.31 in the 800 meters with McCormack scoring sixth in 2:14.98.

In the dash events,
Kathryn Kelly and
Mary Kate Kenny both scored in the 100 and 200 meter events. Kelly took fourth in the 100 meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 12.02 seconds, and fourth in the 200 at 24.97 seconds. Kenny was fifth in both events, posting times of 12.19 and 25.14 seconds. On the men's side, Allen scored eighth in the 200 meter dash in 22.39 seconds.
The 400 meter dash and 400 meter hurdles saw Rams score in both the men's and women's events. Mack and Krug placed fifth (57.64) and sixth (57.79), respectively in the men's hurdles, while Schreib was fourth on the women's side in 1:04.79. In the 400 meter dash, Gooden scored seventh in 50.18 seconds on the men's side, with Budris taking eighth in the women's event in 58.28 seconds.
In the 1500 meter event,
Katarzyna Krzyzanowski had a second place finish for the women in 4:35.90 with
Laurel Fisher in fifth place at 4:41.48. Then in the men's event,
Sean Sullivan was fourth in an IC4A qualifying time of 3:52.99, while
Will Whelan took eighth in 3:59.76.
In the women's 5,000 meter event, Fordham had a 2-3 finish with
Angelina Grebe in second at 17:54.51 and
Abigail Taylor in third at 18:10.26.
In the field events,
Nikolas Reardon and Kelly each scored twice. Reardon was fourth in the triple jump (45' 7 ¾") and fourth in the long jump (24' ¾"), qualifying for the IC4A Championship in the long jump, while Kelly was sixth in the long jump (18' 7") and seventh in the triple jump (35' 10 ¾"). McGraw also scored sixth in the long jump with an IC4A qualifying mark of 23' 4".
Lastly, Fordham had two score in the decathlon, as
Andrew Byrne was second with 5,810 points, with
Connor McKeown in fifth at 5,217 points.
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on Friday, April 19
th, at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton, as well as on Saturday, April 20
th, at the Wolfie Invitational, hosted by Stony Brook.
