Fairfax, Va. – (February 24, 2019) – The 2019 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship wrapped up at Mason Field House in Fairfax, Virginia, with the Fordham men's track & field team placing eighth out of ten teams with 62 points. George Mason won the men's team title with 173 points, followed by Rhode Island (99) and VCU (93.5).
Highlighting the day, junior
Ryan Kutch became a multi-event champion for Fordham. After winning the 5,000 meter run on Saturday, he followed that by taking gold in the 3,000 meters on Sunday in a time of 8:26.17. He was one of three Rams to score in the 3,000 meters, as
Nicholas Raefski placed fifth in 8:33.88 with
Brandon Hall in eighth in 8:37.32.
Fordham had two other medalists at the Championship, as
Arthur Gooden Jr. and
Andrew Byrne earned bronze medals for their performances. Gooden was third in the 500-meter final in a season-best time of 1:04.24, while Byrne racked up 4,821 points in the heptathlon to get the bronze medal. Fordham also had a second scorer in each of those events, as
Kyle Mack was sixth in the 500 meters (1:06.21) with
Connor McKeown being seventh in the heptathlon (4,054 pts.).
The Rams found the scoring column in four other events on the day, starting with
Christopher Strzelinski placing fourth in the 1000 meters in 1:55.73, while over in the field events,
Nikolas Reardon took fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 46' 8 1/4".
Fordham then scored in the final two events, the 4x800 relay and the 4x400 relay. First, the Rams' team of
Jeremiah LaDuca,
Sean Sullivan,
Zalen Nelson, and Strzelinski took eighth in the 4x800 relay in 7:50.89. Then, Fordham's team of Mack, Gooden,
Jack Keegan, and
Andre Guthrie, Jr. placed fifth in the 4x400 relay in 3:21.55.
The team will now prepare for the IC4A Championship, March 2-3, which will be at the BU Track & Tennis Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
