Staten Island, N.Y. – (January 19, 2019) – For the second straight day, the Fordham track & field squad made its way to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island to compete in the Penn 8-Team Select Meet on Saturday. The Rams finished tied for sixth out of eight teams in the men's competition, while the women were ninth out of ten schools.
The Fordham men scored in four of the 14 events and posted one IC4A qualifying time, led by
Nikolas Reardon, who scored in both the high jump and long jump events. Reardon scored fourth in the high jump, clearing 6' 3 ¼", while placing fifth in the long jump with a distance of 22' 11 ¼".
The Rams also scored in the 60 meter dash and the 4x400 relay.
Manuel Alfonso Guzman took sixth in the finals of the 60 meter dash in 7.13 seconds, while the relay team of
Arthur Gooden Jr.,
Jared Benn, John Keegan, and
Kyle Mack placed fourth in a season-best time of 3:21.85.
In addition to the scorers,
Ryan Kutch was once again among the top performers, posting an IC4A qualifying time of 4:16.77 in the mile run, good for 14
th overall.
Other top performers included
Michael Capone in the 60 meter dash (9
th - 7.21) and the 200 meter dash (11
th - 22.86),
Zalen Nelson in the 800 meter run (14
th - 1:56.76 – season-best),
Brandon Hall in the 3,000 meter run (13
th - 8:37.53 – season-best),
Alec Wargo in the weight throw (7
th – 45' 10 ¾"), and
Andrew Byrne in the high jump (12
th – 6' 1 ¼") and the long jump (13
th – 20' 3").

In the women's competition, Fordham scored in two events, highlighted by a fourth place finish in the 3,000 meter run by
Angelina Grebe in a season-best time of 10:11.38. The Rams also scored in the 4x400 relay, as
Sarinnagh Budris,
Aidan Moroz,
Dominique Valentine, and
Kathryn Kelly, clocked in at 3:55.11, good for a season-best time.
Besides the scoring events, the Rams had four other top ten finishes on the night.
Bridget Alex was ninth in the 3000 meter run in 10:37.46, with Kelly taking eighth in the 200 meter dash in 25.21 seconds. In the 400 meter dash, Budris placed ninth in a season-best time of 58.79 seconds with Valentine right behind her in tenth in 58.82 seconds.
Other top performers included Kelly in the 60 meter dash (12
th – 7.90),
Laurel Fisher in the mile (15
th – 5:05.20 – season-best), and Moroz in the 800 meters (12
th – 2:16.33 – season-best).
The Rams will next be in action on January 25-26
th at the Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University.
