Bronx, N.Y. – (January 11, 2019) – The Fordham track & field team was back in action on Friday, as the Rams hosted the
Brian Horowitz Invitational at the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse. Fordham ended the meet placing first out of five teams in the men's competition, while the women were second.
On the men's side, Fordham led the way with 124 points, followed by Stony Brook (55), La Salle (45), Manhattan (20), and Iona (20). In the women's competition, Stony Brook took first with 93 points with Fordham in second (64), La Salle in third (52), Manhattan in fourth (26) and Iona in fifth (23).
Overall, Fordham posted 15 event wins on the day, four of which came early in the field events.
Andrew Byrne won both the pole vault (12' 12 ½") and high jump (6' ¾") events, while
Nikolas Reardon earned the top spot in the long jump with an IC4A qualifying mark of 23' ¾" and the triple jump with an IC4A qualifying mark of 47' 7 ¾".
In the running events,
Ryan Kutch kicked things off by winning the 5,000 meter event in an IC4A qualifying time of 14:35.14 (converted to 14:25.87 for flat track surface).
Sean Sullivan and
Arthur Gooden Jr. followed with wins in the mile run and 400 meter dash, respectively. Sullivan clocked in at 4:21.19, while Gooden posted a first place time of 50.40 seconds.
Michael Capone also won the 200 meter dash for the Rams in 22.93 seconds.
The Rams then got consecutive individual wins in three women's events, which began with
Aidan Moroz taking the 1000 meters in 3:00.86.
Mary Kate Kenny followed with a first place finish in the 200 meters (26.31), while
Laurel Fisher won the 3,000 meter run in 10:15.19.

Fordham then swept all four relays to end the day, led by the men's distance medley relay team of Sullivan, Gooden,
Zalen Nelson, and Kutch, which took first in 10:22.97 (converted to 10:14.63). The men's 4x400 relay, made up of
Jack Keegan,
Kyle Mack,
Jared Benn, and
Jeremiah LaDuca, took first in 3:27.33, with the women's 4x400 relay group of
Sarinnagh Budris,
Dominique Valentine,
Dana Beggins, and
Aidan Moroz, earning first in 4:02.72. The final relay win came from
Blake Elwood, Fisher,
Kate McCormack, and
Bridget Alex in the women's distance medley relay in a time of 12:56.36.
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on Friday, January 18
th when the Rams compete in the NYC Gotham Cup, which begins at 2:00 PM at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
