Lewisburg, Pa. – The Fordham water polo team knew it would be in for a tough match on Saturday, playing the host school and 12
th-ranked Bucknell University in the semifinals of the Mid-Atlantic Water Conference Championship at Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg, Pa. That tough match turned out to be a rough one, as the Rams fell to the Bison, 16-5, as Bucknell was led by six goals by MAWPC Player of the Year Rade Joksimovic.
After Bucknell opened with a 2-0 lead, Fordham evened the damage as
R.J. Simmons and
Tristen Knoflick torched the Bison defense for back-to-back markers at 5:22 and 3:24, respectively, but Tommy Stupp responded for Bucknell with a man-up tally with 2:28 remaining on the clock to make it 3-2 at the break.
From there the Bison took control scoring four in the second quarter, three in the third, and six in the fourth to cap a 16-5 victory
For Fordham, Knoflick, Simmons,
Jake Miller-Tolt,
Magnus Sims, and
Ian Watson each scored once, while Sam Varshisky had three saves. In cage,
Alex Jahns made nine stops for the Rams over 3 ½ quarters with
Patrick Coffey having one stop over the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
The Rams will next be in action at noon on Sunday afternoon against Johns Hopkins in the third place game at the eight-team championship.
