With over 20 members of former Fordham assistant coach Ed Joyce's family in attendance, the Fordham cross country teams got their 2014 season underway on Saturday at the Fordham Fiasco/Ed Joyce Memorial XC Meet, held at Van Cortlandt Park.

The meet honors Ed Joyce, a former Fordham assistant coach, who passed away from a long bout with cancer.

Off first was the women's race, which was won by Rutgers with 43 points, followed by Fairfield (59), Fordham (65), Monmouth (76), Manhattan (103), St. Francis (NY) (206), FDU (215), and Saint Peter's (234).

Among the non-Division I schools, East Stroudsburg took first with 51 points, followed by the College of New Jersey (57), Rowan (105), Nyack (114), Southern Maine (127), California (Pa.) (128), LIU Post (133), NYIT (220), USMMA (251), Felician (268), and Dominican (309).

Individually, Rutgers' Paige Senatore came across the line first in a time of 18:58.53, while Fordham's
Brianna Tevnan was second in 19:40.68. Along with Tevnan, Fordham's
Mara Lieberman also finished in the top ten, taking ninth in 19:58.78.

In the men's event, Navy took first place with a score of 15 points, followed by Fordham (69), Fairfield (74), Manhattan (112), Rutgers (142), St. Francis (NY) (171), FDU (193), and Saint Peter's (224).

Among the non-Division I schools, the College of New Jersey had the best score with 40 points, followed by California (Pa.) (48), Rowan (72), East Stroudsburg (73), USMMA (163), Felician (176), Nyack (177), and NYIT (215).

Individually, Navy had the first six finishers, led by Stephen Schroeder, who paced the field with a time of 26:17.25. The first non-Navy finisher across the line was Fordham's
Mike Turi, who was seventh in 26:44.18.

Aside from Turi, the Rams had four other runners in the top 25, as
Jake Duckworth was 15
th (27:38.93),
Adam Schwenzfeier was 20
th (28:01.75),
Devin Rocks was 22
nd (28:02.00), and
Ryan McGann was 25

William Slattery (33
rd – 29:10.50) and

th – 29:19.75) rounded out the Fordham competitors on the afternoon.

The Fordham cross country team will next be in action on Saturday, September 13
th, when the team takes part in the LIU-Post Invitational in Brookville, N.Y., beginning at 11:00 AM.
