The Fordham women's tennis team began its 2014-15 season out at the Stony Brook Invitational on Friday.  By the end of day one, three Fordham players are alive in their respective singles' draws, while one doubles team is also still in the main draw.

Fordham's Destiny Grunin and Carolina Sa also played in the "B" draw, defeating Nicole Chis and Shreya Pasricha by default, while falling in the quarterfinals to Stony Brook's Kristina Vozniak and Yana Nikoleva, 8-4.

The "A" singles draw saw Fordham's Ball and Ali in the mix, with Ali currently in the semifinals.  She defeated URI's Kathleen Uy, 6-0, 6-1, and Bouillin of Bryant, 3-6, 6-1, and 10-8.  She will meet Army's Carolyn Pitman in the semis.  Ball lost her opening match to Bryant's Brown, 6-1, 6-1, then fell to Navy's Allie Pavlansky in the backdraw, 8-7 (4).

Leong is the only Fordham player in the "B" draw, and is alive in the quarterfinals.  She topped URI's Nithila Asokaraj, 7-6 (7), 2-6, and 10-6 in her opening match and is set to face Navy's Rojo in the quarters.

In the "C" draw, Sa and Grunin both advanced to the quarterfinals, but did not get any further.  Sa was a walkover winner against URI's Annabelle Peacock, while falling to Army's Haley O'Connor, 6-2, 6-4.  For Grunin, she topped Hannah Dahlem of Army, 3-0, retired, but fell to Stony Brook's Cassie Dix, 6-4, 6-4.
