Hailey Cox.
Cox, a Biological Sciences major and a three-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, is graduating early in just three-and-a-half years, as she will be joining the Peace Corps in February, beginning a 27-month tour in Tanzania with Health Care Services.
The Rams sent Cox off on a good note in her final meet, as Fordham swept the dual meet from the Jaspers by scores of 158-87 on the women's side and 159-97 on the men's side.
Fordham won every event in the women's competition, led by sophomores
Morgan Fairclough and
Natalie Malicki, and freshman
Natalie Wodniak, who each won two individual events. Fairclough grabbed first place in the 50-yard backstroke (27.16) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.13), while Malicki took home the 200- (1:58.77) and 500-yard (5:15.52) freestyle events. Wodniak placed first in both diving competitions, scoring 228.15 on the one-meter board and 243.30 on the three-meter board.
Fairclough was also a part of both winning relay teams, as the 200 medley relay team took first in 1:52.05, while the 200 freestyle relay posted a winning time of 1:41.42.
Theresa Goehring was also a part of both winning relays, and had an individual win in the 100 freestyle, posting a time of 55.87 seconds.
Other individual winners included
Victoria McGovern in the 50 breaststroke (31.17),
Erin Gray in the 100 butterfly (1:00.17),
Megan Gray in the 50 freestyle (24.72),
Maureen McKenna in the 100 backstroke (1:02.05),
Kalena Laurent in the 50 butterfly (26.91), and
Julia Day in the 100 individual medley (1:02.20).
In the men's competition, Fordham placed first in 13 of 15 events, led by freshman
Liam Semple, sophomore
Joe Mercurio, and junior
Hanul Moon.
Semple and Moon each won two individual events, while Mercurio was a part of two winning relays and one individual event. Semple captured the 100- (48.41) and 500-yard (4:44.63) freestyle events, while Moon had the top score in both diving events with scores of 213.30 (3M) and 271.35 (1M). Mercurio won the 50 butterfly in 23.61, while assisting the 200 medley relay (1:36.87) and 200 freestyle relay (1:27.13) to event wins.
Other winners on Wednesday night included
Thomas Gillespie in the 200 freestyle (1:47.99),
J.T. Klimko in the 50 backstroke (24.88),
John Furlong in the 50 breaststroke (27.93),
Steve Sholdra in the 100 butterfly (52.01),
Patrick Militti in the 50 freestyle (22.03), and
Zachary Jacobsen in the 100 individual medley (55.06).
The Fordham swimming & diving teams are now off for meets until January 16
th, when the teams host Iona at 4:00 PM.
