Larry Ellis Invitational | Wolfie Invitational Results
Stony Brook. N.Y. - (April 20, 2013) - The Fordham University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams were in action this weekend with a pair of runners competing at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University on Friday and other members competing at the Wolfie Invitational at Stony Brook University on Saturday.
On Friday at the Larry Ellis Invitational, Kevin Fitzgerald and Ryan Polo competed in the 1500m with Fitzgerald placing 15th in 3:49.32 and Polo 22nd in 3:50.86, both IC4A qualifying times. Fitzgerald had previously qualified for the IC4A but his time on Friday bettered his qualifying mark.
On Saturday, the Rams participated in the Wolfie Invitational where Fordham had two events winners on the women's side and two more on the men's.
For the women, Titi Fagade won the 400m in 56.28, just 0.04 seconds behind her season best time, and Mara Lieberman took first in the 800m in 2:14.18. On the men's side, Lester Taylor Lester and Sean Atkinson were the winners with Taylor taking the 800m in 1:53.54 and Atkinson the 400m hurdles in 54.05. Atkinson also took second in the 400m in a season-best time of 49.13.
Besides Fagade winning the 400m on the women's side, the Rams had four other runners finish in the top eleven in the race with Kristen Stuart placing second (57.79), Nicole Ragucci third (57.93), Averie Sheppard sixth (59.33), Elise Tigani tenth (59.66) and Melissa Higgins eleventh (59.94). Sheppard also took third in the 100m hurdles in 15.60.
Other Fordham women placing in the top ten included Courtnay Newman, who placed third in the high jump (1.61m/5' 3.25") and fifth in the 100m hurdles (16.20), Rachel Picard, who was third in the 3000m (10:23.85), Emma Cleary, who placed third in the pole vault (2.95/9' 8"), Danielle Rowe, who finished fourth in the 800m (2:16.45), Christina Vivinetto, who was fifth in the 3000m (10:28.24), Suzy Sikorski, who took fifth in the 5000m (18:11.03), Jillian Brooks and Kerry Sorenson, who were sixth (4:51.54) and seventh (4:55.75), respectively, in the 1500m, Caitlin Hart, who placed eighth in both the shot put (10.47m/34' 4.25") and the discus (30.40m/99' 9"), Delaney Adams, who was eighth in the javelin (33.62m/110' 4") and Christina Machado, who took tenth in the 1500m (4:57.49).
In the women's relays, the Fordham 4x400 team of Ragucci, Higgins, Sheppard and Rowe won the race in 3:52.95, while the 4x100 team of Sheppard, Higgins, Stuart and Tigani took fourth (51.04).
The men had a strong showing in the 800m with Taylor winning the race, just 0.12 seconds ahead of teammate John Cosgrove, who placed second. Daniel Green finished eighth for the Rams in the race in a time of 1:57.18.

Joe Hartnett, who was third in the 3000m steeplechase (9:53.96),
Keegan Talty and
Daniel Chediak, who tied for fourth in the pole vault (4.20m/13' 9.25"),
Austin Ruiz, who placed fourth in the discus with a season-best toss of 41.58m (136' 5") and fifth in the shot put (14.38m/47' 2.25"),
Daniel Clemens, who was fifth in both the 110m hurdles (16.19) and 400m hurdles (56.41), and
Sean Collins, who placed sixth in the 400m (49.71).
In the men's relays, the Fordham team of Sam Houston, Collins, Taylor and Cosgrove won the 4x400 relay in 3:17.99 while the 4x100 squad of Clemens, John Byrne, Michael Bongiorno and Houston placed second.
The men's and women's outdoor track and field teams return to action on Thursday, April 25, as they open competition at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
