Fairfield, Conn. - (Sept. 22, 2012) - The Fordham cross country team split the squad on Saturday with part of the squad competing at the 36th Annual Fr. Leeber, SJ Invitational, hosted at Fairfield University. By meet's end the Fordham women placed third out of six teams, while the men's team placed fourth out of seven teams.
In the women's competition, Sacred Heart won the team title with a score of 20, as the Pioneers had four of the top five finishers. They were followed by Fairfield (38), Fordham (77), Molloy (115), New Haven (136), and Bridgeport (182).
Individually, Sacred Heart's Alyssa Selmquist won the race in a time of 18:27, followed in by her teammate Brianna Castrogivanni in 18:48. Fordham was led by senior Ashley Davis who placed 11th in 19:49, while Jillian Brooks (19:58) and Christina Machado (20:03) were 13th and 14th, respectively. Rachel Picard also finished in the top 20, placing 17th in 20:15.
Other competitors for Fordham included Amanda Foggia (28th - 20:42), Danielle Drummond (30th - 20:45), Shannon McKenna (32nd - 21:00), Danielle Rowe (41st - 21:59), and Kellen Fitzgerald (49th - 22:58).
In the men's race, Fairfield won the team competition with a score of 28, followed by Rutgers (54), Sacred Heart (66), Fordham (90), Molloy (148), New Haven (164), and Bridgeport (221).
Fairfield's Howard Rosas won the race in a time of 25:59, followed by Sacred Heart's Richard Marcello in 26:18. For Fordham, Patrick Burke was the top finisher, taking 10th in 27:16, while Tim Kazanjian was 14th in 27:22. Ben Delikat (21st - 27:57) and James Doran (23rd - 28:00) also finished in the top 25 for the Rams.
Other competitors for Fordham included William Slattery (27th - 28:12), Conor O'Malley (28th - 28:17), Devin Kelly (33rd - 28:38), and Kyle Clonan (36th - 29:01).
