Staten Island, N.Y. - (April 7, 2012) - While most of the team was in Virginia, some members of the Fordham track & field team were on Staten Island for the Wagner Invitational. There was no team scoring.
Leading the way for Fordham was Keegan Talty and Austin Ruiz. Talty won the pole vault event, clearing 13' 5 1/4", while Ruiz was fourth in the shot put with a season-best mark of 45' 2 ½". Ruiz also posted a season-best mark in the hammer throw at 122' 8", which placed seventh, and had a mark of 110' 7" in the discus throw, good for tenth.
The Rams also had fourth place finishes in three other events. Michael Bongiorno was fourth in the 800 meters at 2:02.91, with Joe Hartnett taking fourth in the 1500 meters in 4:06.56. Patrick Burke was the final fourth place finisher on the men's side in the 5000 meter run in 16:34.31.
In the women's competition, Christina Machado had the top finish of the day, taking third in the 1500 meters in 5:01.12, ahead of teammates Nako Nakatsuka (6th - 5:09.64) and Christina Vivinetto (7th - 5:10.26).
Hailey Cox was the lone field event competitor, as she took eighth in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 33' 2", as well as 13th in the long jump (14' 6").
The Rams also had a pair of top ten finishers in the 400 meters, as Mackenzie Doncha was seventh (1:03.95) and Coral Hershkovitz was 10th (1:05.67).
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on Monday, April 9th, at the St. John's Monday Meeting I in Jamaica, N.Y.
