Williamsburg, Va. - (April 7, 2012) - The Fordham track & field ended their trip to the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia, on Saturday in style as both team finished in the top ten, while posting two school records and two more ECAC/IC4A qualifying times.
The Fordham men's team finished the meet in eighth place out of 43 teams with 36 points , while the women's squad was tenth out of 43 teams with 41 points.
For the second straight day, the women's team had the big highlight of the day as the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams both set new school records. The 4x200 team of Titi Fagade, Averie Sheppard, Kelly Connolly and Melissa Higgins set a new school mark of 1:42.85, taking fifth overall. The previous mark was 1:44.40, set in 2003.
Then, in the women's 4x400 relay, Fagade, Connolly, Kristen Stuart, and Elisabeth Warren ran a school record time of 3:47.59 to finish fourth overall and qualify for the ECAC Championship. The previous school record of 3:47.81 was set last season.
Fordham had two other relays perform on Saturday, as the 4x100 relay of Fagade, Sheppard, Connolly, and Warren, took eighth in a season-best time of 49.39 seconds, while the 4x1500 relay squad of Ashley Davis, Anisa Arsenault, Mairin O'Connor, and Sarah Glockenmeier placed tenth in 19:51.85.
The Rams also had individual competitors in two other events, as Arsenault placed second in the 3,000 meter run in a season-best time of 9:59.68, while Sheppard was 14th in the semifinals of the 100 meter hurdles in 15.33 seconds.
In the men's competition, Sean Collins placed 11th in the semifinals of the 110 meter hurdles in 15.18 seconds, while Sam Stuart led a trio of Fordham runners in the 3,000 meters as he took ninth in a season-best time of 8:38.70.
In relay action, the men's 4x400 relay of Sean Atkinson, Nick Delligatti, Sam Houston, and Collins qualified for the IC4A Championship, taking 5th in a time of 3:15.59. The men's 4x800 relay also improved its IC4A qualifying time, as Ryan Polo, Daniel Green, John Cosgrove, and Kevin Fitzgerald, placed third in a season-best time of 7:34.29.
Fordham also competed in the 4x100 and distance medley relays. Collins, Atkinson, Delligatti, and David Fajoyomi took sixth in the 4x100 relay in a season-best time of 42.85 seconds, while Brian Walter, Michael Rossi, Jonathan Annelli, and Ben Delikat finished 11th in the distance medley relay in 10:21.25.
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on Monday, April 9th, at the St. John's Monday Meeting I in Jamaica, N.Y.
