New Haven, Conn. - (April 29, 2012) - The Fordham track & Field team wrapped up a busy week on Sunday at the Yale Springtime Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut. Overall, the Rams posted seven top five finishes throughout the competition.
Leading the way on Sunday was Daniel Clemens, who finished second in the 400 meter hurdles in 57.74 seconds, while also taking ninth in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.42 seconds. Senior Matt Collins matched Clemens' top finish by taking second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 9:50.78, while Joe Hartnett was right behind Collins, taking third in the steeplechase in 9:54.69.
Junior Michael Bongiorno had a pair of top ten finishes, as he grabbed fourth in the 400 meter dash in 51.17 seconds and tenth in the 200 meter dash in 23.15 seconds. Other top performers included Daniel Chediak and Keegan Talty, who placed fourth (13' 5 1/4") and sixth (12' 5 1/2") in the pole vault, respectively, Sam Stuart, who was ninth in the 1500 meters (4:03.25), Austin Ruiz, who was sixth in the shot put (43' 7"), and Stephen Courtney, who was sixth in the javelin throw (129' 7").
In the relays, the men's 4x400 relay of Bongiorno, John Byrne, Brian Walter, and Michael Rossi took third overall in 3:33.06.
On the women's side, Christina Machado led the action by taking fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase event in a career-best time of 11:51.78.
Besides Machado, other top performers were Ashley Davis, who was 14th in the 800 meters in 2:22.68, Brianna Tevnan, who was 23rd in the 1,500 meters (4:58.12), and Hailey Cox, who was 14th in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 34' 0".
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on May 5th - 6th, as the team travels to Amherst, Massachusetts, for the 2012 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Massachusetts.
