New Haven, Conn. - (Jan. 14, 2012) - The Fordham track & field teams wrapped up their competitions for this week at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut. The day proved to be a strong one as the Rams recorded three IC4A qualifying times, as well as ten season-best performances.
The Rams opened the running events with the women's mile run, where three Rams finished in the top ten, led by Anisa Arsenault in fourth place in a season-best time of 5:10.03. She was followed in by Erin Lunny in sixth (5:12.97) and Emily Osman in ninth (5:16.67). In the men's mile, Jonathan Annelli was the top finisher in 15th, as he posted a season-best time of 4:24.55.
Next up was the 400 meters, where the Rams had the first of three IC4A qualifiers, as Sean Atkinson placed third in an IC4A qualifying time of 49.10 seconds. In the women's event, Fordham had four runners in the top 12 finishers with all runners clocking in at under a minute. Melissa Higgins led the way in eighth place in 59.35 seconds, followed by Kristen Stuart (9th - 59.37), Averie Sheppard (10th - 59.49), and Elisabeth Warren (12th - 59.55).
In the women's 800 meters, Fordham had two top ten finishers, as Kelly Connolly placed second overall in 2:22.46, while Kellen Fitzgerald was ninth in 2:27.29.
The next Fordham competitor came in the 60 meter hurdles, when Sean Collins qualified seventh for the finals with a season-best time of 8.72 seconds, but did not run the finals as he was a part of the men's distance medley relay team. He joined the group of Ryan Polo, John Cosgrove, and Julian Saad to finish second overall in an IC4A qualifying time of 10:00.07.
Polo and Cosgrove would also join Michael Rossi and Atkinson for the 4x800 relay, which also placed second in an IC4A qualifying time of 7:46.49.
In the women's 4x800 relay, Fordham won the event, as Titi Fagade, Jillian Brooks, Mara Lieberman, and Osman put together a season-best time of 9:30.72. The Rams' final relay team competed in the women's 4x400 event, where Stuart, Higgins, Warren, and Connolly placed second in a season-best time of 3:56.72.
The final events which Fordham had competitors was the men's 3,000 meter run and the women's triple jump. Kevin Fitzgerald led a trio of Rams in the 3,000 meters as he placed second overall in 8:28.89, while Hailey Cox was 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 32' 4 ¾".
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on Friday, January 20th, when the Rams participate in the Great Dane Invitational, held at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York.
