Track & Field Begins Indoor Season at the Fordham Season Opener

Bronx, N.Y. - (Dec. 2, 2011) - The Fordham track & field team got their 2011-12 season underway on Friday night, hosting the Fordham Season Opener at the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse. In all, the Rams posted the top mark in ten events in their season opener.

In the women's event, senior Elisabeth Warren and junior Courtnay Newman each posted a win, as Warren won the 400 meter dash in 1:01.6 while Newman took home the high jump title, clearing 5' 1 ". Warren also finished fourth in the long jump (16' 3"), with Newman taking sixth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.4).

Senior Kelly Connolly posted the top collegiate time in the 800 meter run, taking second overall in 2:21.4, behind only Fordham alum Maureen Zivic ('05). Other top finishers on the women's side included Kristen Stuart, who was third in the 400 meters (1:02.0), Titi Fagade, who was third in the 800 meter run (2:21.9), Christina Machado, who took fourth in the mile run (5:37.2), Hayley Cox, who was third in the triple jump (34' 5"), and Blair Hassell, who was fourth in the weight throw (36' 2 ¼").

In relay action, the sprint medley relay team of Connolly, Averie Sheppard, Elise Tigani, and Christina Machado, placed second in 4:27.4.

On the men's side, sophomore transfer David Fajoyomi was a dual event winner in his first action as a Ram. He won the 60 meter dash in 6.9 seconds, while also taking first in the high jump, clearing 6' ¾". In addition to Fajoyomi, senior Nick Delligatti, junior Sean Atkinson, freshman Jonathan Annelli, and junior Keegan Talty also posted event wins on Friday.

Delligatti won the 400 meter dash in 51.2 seconds, while Atkinson took home the 800 meter run in 1:57.5. Both runners along with Frank Massaro and Ryan Polo also went on to win the sprint medley relay event later in the night in 3:41.4.

Annelli won the 3,000 meter run in 9:00.2 with Talty taking the pole vault event, clearing 14' 3 ¼". Right behind Talty was Daniel Chediak, who was second in the pole vault, clearing 12' 9 ½".

The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on Friday, December 9th, when the Rams host the Christmas Classic at the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse. Field events begin at 3:00 PM with running events starting at 5:00 PM.
